f you’re anything like us, you know that Toronto is at a crossroads. The cost of living crisis is forcing people to bend over backwards for housing, or out of housing entirely. Food bank use has increased while wealth continues to concentrate among a small group in this city.

The public services that every working-class Torontonian relies on are being cut. Meanwhile, the police budget in this city continues to skyrocket. It is in the name of these crises that we produce our journalism.

Toronto is having another mayoral race in June. Over 50 candidates have put their hats in, but The Hoser is the only independent outlet that will question candidates on their stance on encampment evictions or safe consumption sites.

Our goal is to raise $5,000 that will go directly towards local reporting in Toronto around the mayoral election, paying journalists and photographers fairly and on time for their on-the-ground work.

We have listened to our audience and our extended networks. Several key issues are facing Toronto: cuts to public transit, the housing and affordability crises, underfunding of social services and the overfunding of police are impacting our lives.

We aim to get key stakeholders, including elected officials and those running for mayor, on the record about how they plan to confront and overcome these crises in ways that differ from the old Tory administration. We also want to highlight voices from around the city, people who have been experiencing and pushing against the worst of our times, creating the best of Toronto.

To do this we need your support. Consider chipping in $20, $10, or anything you are able to. Otherwise, please consider sharing our fundraiser link on your social media channels and with friends and family. Every dollar will go towards publishing independent journalism in the Greater Toronto Area.

Thank you!
